Malthus in preindustrial Northern Italy?

چکیده
The Malthusian model, which implies a long-run interaction between demography and living standards, forms cornerstone of our understanding comparative economic development, as postulated by unified growth theory. Its empirical validity has been supported number studies, most examine England. In Northern Italy, however, there might have reversed “preventive check.” We employ cointegrated VAR model on Italian data from ca. 1650–1799 find some evidence for this, but also diminishing returns thus more “Malthusian” society than in, example, England at that time.

Evolutionary demography of agricultural expansion in preindustrial northern Finland.
A shift from nomadic foraging to sedentary agriculture was a major turning point in human evolutionary history, increasing our population size and eventually leading to the development of modern societies. We however lack understanding of the changes in life histories that contributed to the increased population growth rate of agriculturalists, because comparable individual-based reproductive r...

This report presents the results of an ozone monitoring experience performed with tobacco indicator plants (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. 'Bel-W3'). These bioindicators were exposed to ambient air in 23 sites in Northern Italy from 27 April 1987 to 21 October 1987. Typical ozone-induced leaf necrosis was observed in every site. The percentage increase in injured leaf area was estimated weekly and a ...

متن کاملEmergence of leishmaniasis in northern Italy
Background – Canine leishmaniasis (CanL) is traditionally endemic in central-south Italy, whereas northern regions (Padana plane and Alpine territories) have been considered Leishmania-free (Pozio et al., 1985) until early 1990’s, when CanL foci were firstly identified in Veneto and Piedmont. Because of the appearance of autochthonous human cases (VL), a national project was launched in 2003 to...
